Cleaning jewellery tips for those special pieces or for your everyday accessories is a matter of what not to do. Look after your jewellery or it could lose its shine very quickly. Do not expose your jewellery to chemicals or cleaning products, avoid contact with hair products, abrasive soaps, seawater and even tap water. Take your jewellery off when sleeping, washing/showering, exercising and cooking. All of these expose your jewellery to things such as sweat, oil and dangerous mineral deposits. If exposed to harmful things like this your jewellery will suffer discolorations, scratches and lose its shine.
Here are some basic Jewellery cleaning tips for all types of jewellery. Examine your jewellery prior to cleaning to ensure all clasps and hinges are secure. Always use a non abrasive cleaner and a soft brush or cloth.

Cleaning Your Precious Diamonds

The process is quite simple. Take a glass bowl, and pour some Vodka into it. Take your diamond jewellery and swish it inside the bowl. Take it out and then rinse it with clean, clear water and wipe it dry with a soft cloth. Moreover, if your diamond jewellery is really very dirty, then it is advisable that you dip a soft toothbrush in the vodka and scrub the jewellery delicately. This process will clean and add the requisite sparkle to the diamond jewellery in no time at all.

Cleaning Gold Jewellery

This is again a process that is simplicity itself. All that is required is a cup of warm water, a teaspoon of liquid dish soap and a teaspoon of household ammonia. Your gold jewellery must be then immersed in this mixture and allowed to rest in it for a period of not more than ten minutes. Rinse with clean fresh water and after this, you must use a soft cloth to wipe them dry. You will be amazed by the efficacy of this simple process.

Cleaning Sterling Silver
The easiest way would be to use a glass casserole whose bottom must be lined with an aluminium foil tray. You then add two tablespoons of baking soda and a tablespoon of salt and some boiling water inside the glass casserole. (Watch out for the fumes)The silver jewellery then needs to be added to this mixture and allowed to sit in it, till the water cools down. After that, remove the silver pieces rinse thoroughly and buff them with a soft cloth.

Just wear them! The oils from your skin helps keep there lustre.
However, there are times when there is simply very little opportunity for you to wear your pearls. In this case, rub a little olive oil on a soft cloth and then wipe them gently.

  Jewellery Storage
This would ensure the cleanliness of the jewellery and the preservation as well. You must keep your jewellery in an enclosed storage space that is also dry and cool. Any sustained exposure to heat will cause an irrevocable damage to your jewellery. Keeping your items separate and not rubbing will also help.
